Dear (MPs Name)
As my local MP, I would really like you to represent me at the next meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Fibromyalgia.
Representatives from the Department of Health, Medical Advisory Board Members and health professionals as well as and Trustees from FMA UK will be invited to discuss the vital way forward.
As a sufferer of Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), I know from personal experience how difficult it is, too firstly receive a proper diagnosis and secondly to receive appropriate treatment for this chronic debilitating condition. I do have some sympathy for the medical profession though as, at present there is no standardised treatment for FMS.
Fibromyalgia is accepted by the Department of Health as a real condition and it is included on the NHS Direct website. However, this does not go far enough to help either the sufferer or the medical profession, many of whom still have problems with this diagnosis.
The Fibromyalgia Association UK is seeking to change this situation by making an application to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) requesting them to produce guidelines for the medical profession on the diagnosis, treatment and management of Fibromyalgia.
At present there is inappropriate variations in access to clinical interventions and/or treatment between geographical areas, which is unacceptable. Appropriate guidelines would reduce this inequality in treatment within the health service and improve patient’s quality of life.
With your help, sufferers like me will at last be able to feel that something is being done for us and that we are not fighting this on our own. MPs around the country are, therefore, being encouraged to join us and make this happen and I really would like you to be part of this exciting step forward.
Please contact Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East and Chair of the APPG on Fibromyalgia, to discuss how you can help us raise the profile of this little known debilitating chronic illness. For more information you can also check out the official Fibromyalgia Association UK website at www.fmauk.org and our local Sheffield FMS website at www.sheffieldfms.org.uk
Thank you in anticipation of your help and support.
Yours Sincerely
